The security of our computers is the main concern for all software developers from the entire world because the number of the internet attacks is increasing by the day. The hacker activity is also reported every day so it’s obvious that we need a powerful solution to defend our systems. Many users are trying to protect their computer by installing an antivirus solution that is very often a security suite with multiple functions, and a firewall application that is meant to control all the applications that need an internet connection and to block hacker attempts.

Of course, nobody can be sure he’s protected on the internet even if he already installed these two security applications because there are a lot of new threats that appear every day and make our computers vulnerable. Also, several programs installed on our system can contain multiple security flaws that can allow an attacker to control the system without any approval from the users.

So, the most important question is: how can we test the security of our computer to know exactly if our computer is vulnerable or not? Well, there are a lot of online services that allow us to test the security of your system but most of them concern only the antivirus solution or the firewall program. The antivirus tests are trying to download an infected but harmless file while the firewall tests are checking every port of your computer.

Symantec tried to provide an all-in-one test that can check all the security aspects of your computer, creating a report with both antivirus protection and firewall efficiency. The test is available through this link and you can choose from two options: security scan and virus detection.

I can’t say if the test is 100 percent efficient but I must sustain that the results provided by the company were at least weird because they said I have no antivirus solution while my virus protection was up and running. “WARNING! No known virus protection software found. This means your computer and data are vulnerable to virus attacks. Virus attacks can have serious consequences, including system damage and data loss,” the test said.
